WEDNESDAY PROGRAM

Every Wednesday we go to one to three schools across Columbus to empower girls and build a strong community of women.

Topics:
Body Image
Self Love
Schedule:
Opening
Personal Info
-
First member: When I was younger… [talk about own experiences; e.g. lack of
-
representation]
Set boundaries/rules
-
Open place; no judgment
-
Whatever we talk about here, will remain in here.
Ice Breaker
-
Everyone close their eyes. Raise your hand if you have ever felt that…
-
Questions: Does anyone want to share?

Activities
Activity One: Mirror

-
“Write whatever you see whenever you look at a mirror - whether that be insecurities or not”
-
Questions:
-
Did anyone say something positive or negative?
-
-
Reminders:
-
Self love isn’t selfish
-
Your appearance does not define you.
-

Activity Two: Life Size Woman
Pass out post it notes
-
“Write down what they imagine a girl should be OR what other people expect a perfect girl should be like”
-
You'll come up and stick the notes on one of the girls. The said girl will shake off those unrealistic or unfair expectations.
-
Examples: When you felt scared to do something because you were a girl; as a woman you aren’t played to play football, don’t wear blue, talk about jobs
-
-
The girls share → combat these stereotypes
Activity Three: Step to the Line or Stand Up Sit Down
-
“Girl Facts”
-
We’re going to get in a horizontal line, shoulder to shoulder and we’re going to close our eyes.
-
Step to the line if…
- Stand up if...
-
-
At the end remind them:
-
Whoever you feel like they are, that is okay
-
You can play football but also wear makeup; neither thing doesn’t make you more of a girl or less of a girl!
-
-
You can be everything or you can be nothing of this
-
Being different is okay!
-
-
-
Closing
First: “Negative out & Positive in”
-
Have the students write the mean things about they have been told of have felt towards their body, their self in general, or who they are
-
Put these pieces of papers into the water; this is how you are letting go these negative thoughts.
-
Next, have students write something positive about the girl next to them.
-
Give them examples; [e.g. “I like how __ is so caring]
-
Remind them it doesn’t have to be looks!
-
Question Time
-
Tell them they can seek you out if you have private or personal questions
Last: Repeat after me
-
I am beautiful, I am kind, I am important
-
Have girls come up and say something that the class must repeat
